Valley School Passes the Test
by Ben Ferguson
On Tuesday October 14, 2009, SACS came to our school. Why were they here? Who were they? What does SACS stand for? I went to our Vice Principal Mrs. Harrison to find out. " SACS stands for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools," Harrison said. "They last came in 2005, and we were accredited." Accredited means to authorize someone; to give official power. SACS came to our school to determine if we were eligible for accreditation again. Mrs. Harrison said, " Being accredited also helps the students when they leave Valley to go to another school, that school knows that they came from a good, well balanced school. "Our SACS Review Team for the District was made up of a nine member panel," Harrison said. According to a faculty member, two of the team members came to Valley and interviewed panels of students, teachers, community stakeholders, and the school leadership team. They also visited eight other schools in the county. Valley's review was part of a district-wide review, a new way of accreditation. On October 15, Mr. Kacharos attended a meeting at the Walker County Board of Education to find out if Valley was going to remain accredited and came back with the good news. Valley and the other schools passed the test, and the Walker County School System, will be accredited again for another five years.

Everyone is so excited about this year's Fall Festival to be held on Tuesday, October 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at VJH. Everyday students are coming up to our Beta Club teacher that is in charge of the festival saying,"Mrs. Homan! Mrs. Homan! I have the best idea for the festival!" This year will be mostly the same, but some things have changed. Our school will not be hosting a dance this year as they have in previous ones; the students demand a real straight-forward Festival. But there are also the classics that we just couldn't part with: the hay ride, cake walk, face and hair painting, go fish, pick-up ducks, and my personal favorite, pie-in-the-face. Some of the events are sponsored by the Sixth Grade Washington Trip Sponsors and some events will be sponsored by the Valley PTO. We're prepared to have a great time here at Valley and guarantee fun for all ages!

SEVENTH GRADE LADY BUCS TAKE ON CURRY. (by Daisy Hamill) On October 27,2009 the seventh grade Lady Bucs were facing Curry. When they stepped onto the court they were full of hope. Then soon in the 1st half they went down by at least 10 points. By the time it was half time, they were devastated. Coach K. said to focus and to get out there and win! Kasey Rogers, number 23, scored us about 5 points. Then Haley Eatmon scored about 6 or 7 points. The score was 22 to 12. The Lady Bucs were on their last play with about 20 seconds on the clock. They were consistent, and when the clock buzzed, they knew it was over. The final score was 31 to 18. Even though Valley lost, the Lady Bucs were still happy. They had fun, and they played hard and fair. So, that's all that really matters. Next game is October 29th at Lupton at 4:00 P.M.
